Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Bay Area

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. The primary part of the job will be leading and/or directly contributing to the mechanical aspects of a product’s design. Specific technical responsibilities vary by project, however it is imperative that you have command of all mechanical engineering fundamentals and understand how they are applied to simple, reliable design. 

Job duties include:

  • Design injection-molded parts, machined parts, and sheet metal parts in 3D CAD
  • Some project management, including identifying separation of tasks and CAD for distributing among other mechanical team members
  • Manage assemblies of components and bill of materials
  • Discover creative, yet easily manufacturable solutions to difficult problems
  • Leading brainstorms and design reviews with internal team and clients
  • Design and analyze mechanical systems and mechanisms
  • Coordination with electrical team to communicate mechanical constraints
  • Coordination with industrial design team to implement design intent
  • Create 2D drawings using correct GD&T standards and perform tolerance analyses
  • Identify appropriate prototyping methods for part evaluation and proper materials for production
  • Evaluate prototypes to test specifications and then improve upon the design
  • Management of technical issues and task prioritization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s of Science or Master’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year university (or similar)
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Proficient knowledge of SolidWorks or PTC Creo Direct
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design considerations – injection molding, sheet metal, machining, rapid prototyping
  • Experience in mid to high volume manufacturing of consumer and medical devices
  • Experience sharing mechanical information for PCBAs with electrical team
  • Experience implementing ID surface models into mechanical designs
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T and how it is applied to design and manufacturing
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills combined with attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and plan effectively.
  • Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to observe mechanical differences and capture details to solve defects as they occur.
  • Experience with getting to the root cause of defects.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and write detailed reports
  • Have a positive attitude and focus on client success
  • Ethical and honest in every part of the job
  • Work effectively in a team setting and collaborate openly with other engineers
  • Proficiency with MS Suite tools (excel, word, powerpoint)

Other Experience:

  • Finite Element Analysis, Computation Flow Dynamics, or experience in other simulation packages a plus
  • Spline driven surface modeling a plus
  • Top-down design techniques and master modeling a plus
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Confluence, JIRA) a plus
  • Prior experience with medical devices and working within a medical quality system preferred
  • Mechatronics, robotics, and programming experience a plus
  • Knowledge of stepper and dc motors, solenoids, gear and belt drive systems, bearings, sensors, and electronics a plus
